Sibu, Kuching register triple-digit cases as Sarawak’s total new cases climb to 673

KUCHING, June 25: Sibu and Kuching registered triple-digit cases, contributing 231 cases or 34.32 per cent of the 673 total Covid-19 new cases in Sarawak today.

Both districts saw an increase in number of cases compared to 85 cases from Sibu and 58 from Kuching yesterday.

On the breakdown of the total cases, Sibu reported 122, followed by Kuching (109), Kanowit (84), Bintulu (57), Sarikei (51), Tebedu (37), Telang Usan (31), Mukah (20), Bau (18), Miri (18), Sri Aman (13), Tatau (13), Saratok (11), Kapit (8), Subis (8), Sebauh (8), Pakan (8), Bukit Mabong (8), Asajaya (7), Kabong (7), Samarahan (6), Serian (5), Matu (5), Song (5), Dalat (4), Lawas (3) Selangau (2), Lubok Antu (2), Julau (1), Betong (1) and Tanjung Manis (1).

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 76 out of the 673 cases were symptomatic while as many as 583 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

In short, 357 cases were screened after having close contact with positive cases; 226 individuals linked to active clusters; 49 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals and 41 from general screenings in health facilities.

The State also recorded four new fatalities involving individuals aged between 39 and 80, bringing the State’s death toll since Covid-19 outbreak in Sarawak to 396.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported the recoveries of 565 patients who had been  discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 51,793 or 82.45 per cent.

There are 10,486 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

Meanwhile, 676 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported, with none awaiting test results. — DayakDaily
