20 Covid-19 cases sparks Kidurong workplace cluster, 96 more awaiting results

KUCHING, June 25: A new Covid-19 cluster outbreak of 20 positive cases so far has taken place at a workers’ quarters of an engineering company at the Kidurong Industrial Area in Tatau, dubbed the Jalan Kidurong Lama Cluster.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said there is yet to be a negative case from this cluster though 96 more samples out of 116 individuals screened are still waiting for laboratory test results.

The committee said the cluster started its spread through social interactions and close contacts among the employees and residents in the quarters.

Pointing out that the quarters premises is already under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), SDMC assured all positive cases have been admitted to the Bintulu Hospital and Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRC).

Meanwhile, Sarawak also reported a second new cluster today, which is the Jalan Renggas Cluster in Kuching involving workers of a spare parts workshop at Renggas Road.

The cluster registered nine positive cases, 11 negative test results while six more samples still awaiting laboratory test results.

At the same time, four clusters namely the Jalan Limbang Cluster and Jalan Lilin Cluster in Miri, Bako Hilir Cluster and Kampung Semerah Padi Fasa 1 Cluster in Kuching were declared to be ending today.

Following that, Sarawak is left with 94 active clusters as of today. — DayakDaily
