SIBU, June 19: A housewife in her 50s lost RM48,800 after falling victim to an online part-time job scam that promised lucrative commissions.
According to TVS report, Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the victim had received a WhatsApp message on June 15 offering a part-time job that only required her to click “likes” on the Lazada app.
“Enticed by the offer, the victim followed instructions to perform several money transfers with the assurance of receiving high returns in commissions,” he said in a statement today.
On June 17, the woman made three separate transfers totalling RM48,800 to three different local bank accounts.
“However, she began to feel suspicious when asked to make additional payments.
“Realising she had been duped, she lodged a police report on June 18,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – DayakDaily
