SIBU, March 22: Sibu Hospital has denied giving authority to any individuals or groups to collect funds for its medical teams or Covid-19 patients.

The hospital said several committees, organisations or individuals have publicised in social media on fund raising for the hospital, which had caused much confusion among public members.

“Because of all this, we are appealing to any party who wish to collect donations or contributions to call Sibu Hospital’s administration,” a spokesperson said when contacted.

He added that there have been many of such illegal donation drives going on, as certain irresponsible people are taking advantage of the Covid-19 outbreak.

“I am not sure how many are there now on social media,” he continued.

He added that one such incident was when an individual had claimed that Sibu Hospital was urgently needing several food items including 3-in-1 Nescafe, 3-in-1 Milo, 3-in-1 tea, instant noodles, mineral water, biscuits, mini shower set, toothbrush and toothpaste among others.

The person involved even publicised her phone number for people to donate these items, the spokesperson said. — DayakDaily
