Ship in Bintulu sparks new workplace Covid-19 cluster with 92 cases so far

KUCHING, Sept 24: A logistics and transportation ship anchored in Bintulu has sparked a new workplace cluster dubbed the Haidah Cluster, with 92 Covid-19 cases so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said the cluster involved the ship workers and crew who are undergoing quarantine and the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on the ship.


From the total number of positive cases, 42 were reported today.

“A total of 173 individuals have been screened whereby 92 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 45 tested negative and 36 are still awaiting test results,” the Committee said.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Bintulu Hospital as well as Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in the district for isolation and further treatment.

SDMC also reported that two new community clusters, namely the Sungai Merusa Cluster in Subis and Kanawa Baram Cluster in Marudi.

The Sungai Merusa Cluster stemmed from residents of a longhouse which has been placed under the EMCO located at Sungai Merusa, Niah in Subis.

Of the 57 individuals screened, 44 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 12 tested negative and one is still awaiting test results.

The positive patients are currently undergoing isolation and treatment at Miri Hospital as well as CAC and PKRC in Miri district.

The Kanawa Baram Cluster originated from a village placed under the EMCO located in Marudi.

Of the 53 individuals screened, 29 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 23 tested negative and one is still awaiting test results.

The positive patients for this cluster are currently undergoing isolation and treatment at Miri Hospital, PKRC in Miri and CAC in Marudi district.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of the Taman Indah Landeh Cluster in Kuching, Lorong Temenggung Haji Gobil Cluster in Kuching and Nanga Dap Cluster in Kanowit after no new infections were reported within the past 28 days.

At present, there are 131 active clusters in the State, with 10 of them recording an increase of 202 new positive cases.

The 10 clusters recording an increase are Kampung Bungey 2 Cluster with 60 cases, the new Haidah Cluster (45), the new Sungai Merusa Cluster (29), Sungai Ipoh Cluster (21), Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster (18), the new Kanawa Baram Cluster (13), KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster (10), Long Urun Cluster (4), Sungai Pana Cluster (1) and Duras Cluster (1). — DayakDaily
