KUCHING, May 26: The Kumang Dayak (Iban) pageant, held in conjunction with the Kapit Cultural Festival (KCF) 2026, unfolded in a colourful, festive atmosphere, celebrating the grace, beauty, and rich cultural heritage of the Iban community.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the competition, held at Kapit Town Square on Sunday (May 24), drew enthusiastic support from the public as contestants showcased traditional attire, poise, and cultural knowledge in a display of Iban identity and tradition.
At the end of the competition, Diana Benjamin was crowned Kumang (Champion), earning the coveted title along with RM5,000 in cash, a trophy, and a certificate.
Pressie Radin was named Lulong (First Runner-Up), while Joyse Elysa Jantum secured third place and was awarded the title of Selingkar Matahari.
The event was further made vibrant with performances from invited artistes, adding to the celebratory atmosphere before the winners received their prizes during a presentation ceremony, followed by a group photography session with guests and supporters.
Among those in attendance were Deputy Minister of Digital and MP for Hulu Rajang, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs) and Bukit Goram assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Pelagus assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang; and Baleh assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi Jantai. — DayakDaily
