KUCHING, May 24: The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Property Expo 2022, a one-stop expo for property developers, home buyers, and investors, returns to the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here from Sept 30 to Oct 2.
According to Sheda treasurer-general John Yong Lock Ping, the reopening of borders in the second quarter of 2022, as well as an increase in trade and commerce in Sarawak, were taken as encouraging signs by the organising committee that Sarawakians are ready to consider and commit to the purchase of property.
“In addition, the comeback of events such as the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and the Kuching Festival Food Fair gave us confidence that Sarawakians are ready to return to “business as usual”.
“In view of this positive outlook, Sheda is pleased to provide property developers, home buyers, and investors alike a one-stop expo to achieve their goals.
“Whatever the economic climate, Sheda remains committed to meeting Sarawak’s property needs, addressing housing demand, and playing a role in the State’s development,” he said today at the expo’s launch at Sheda Kuching headquarters here.
Yong also remarked that the readiness of Sarawakians to resume economic activity had also been supported by the Sarawak government’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
He added that the clearly communicated roadmap should reassure potential home buyers that Sarawak will steadily be steered out of the disruptions caused by the Covid-19.
“For 2022, the expo aims to encourage positive public sentiment, reinvigorate interest in the property sector in Sarawak, and stimulate the local economy, namely in the construction and property development sector.
“Although the expo will mostly feature property development projects, members of the public interested in renovation or home upgrading will be able to peruse building materials, furnishings, and finishings.
“Sheda understands that as a result of the Covid-19, more people are more interested in having multi-functional spaces and the expo is a well-timed and convenient opportunity to explore possibilities,” Yong explained.
He disclosed that members of the public will also have access to estate agents, bankers, government agencies, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local councils.
Yong, who is also the Sheda activities committee chairman, took the opportunity to thank the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG), the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), and the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) for their support.
He urged all interested exhibitors to book early in order to secure preferred locations and early bird discounts before June 30, 2022, as regular prices will go into effect on July 1, 2022.
