KUCHING, Nov 30: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) is committed to delivering 2,000 units of affordable houses a year starting from 2022 as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The association’s president Augustine Wong said Sheda will call for a stakeholder meeting soon to discuss the catalyst drive of Sarawak Housing Deposit Aids Scheme (HDAS) to achieve the target of building the affordable houses.

He added that Sheda have had a few meetings with State-owned Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd (Mutiara) earlier to work out the criteria for pre-qualified projects and developers who have developed certain number of houses below RM300,000 per unit.

“Sheda and Mutiara had established a common understanding that both parties will work closely with the State government and the relevant agencies, and to support each other in initiatives to increase the overall supply, demand and take up rate of affordable housing in Sarawak,” he said in a press statement today.

On affordable housing, Abang Johari had on Nov 27 during the launching of ‘Jelajah Belia Sarawak – Satok’ announced that the Sarawak government would be allocating RM10 million in HDAS to help youths, specifically young couples to buy and own their first house.

The HDAS will be channelled through Mutiara.

Under the scheme, the State government would cover the deposit of RM10,000 for houses priced at RM300,000 and below for each successful applicant. — DayakDaily
