KUCHING, Aug 29: The Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster, triggered following a funeral ceremony in Tatau involving a longhouse, has added 37 new Covid-19 cases, bringing its current total to 97 cases.
According to the daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster registered the highest number of new cases among all active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak.
As of today, a total of 124 longhouse folks related to the cluster have been swabbed, with 27 testing negative and no Covid-19 swab test results pending.
The Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster was announced on August 22 after 57 people who attended a funeral ceremony at a longhouse in Sungai Penyarai, Kakus, Tatau tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the Bungey 2 Cluster which was sparked by a wedding ceremony in Betong, added 32 more Covid-19 cases, bringing the total for the cluster to 614.
A total of 670 people have been swabbed and 33 individuals are still awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.
The Kampung Git Cluster which had the third highest number of new cases today involves a number of families living at KM27 off Jalan Puncak Borneo.
The cluster produced additional 25 new cases today, bringing its cumulative total to 189.
A total of 210 individuals have been swabbed so far, with 21 testing negative and no Covid-19 swab test results pending.
Five other active clusters reported double-digit increases in new cases today.
They were the Kampung Quop Cluster (20 new cases), Kampung Simpok Cluster in Serian (17), Kampung Goebilt Cluster (12), Mapu Cluster in Tebedu (12) and Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster in Serian (10).
There were also 19 active clusters throughout the State which registered single-digit increases in new cases.
They are the Kampung Matang Lot Cluster with nine new cases, Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster (8), Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster (7), Duras Cluster in Serian (7), Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya Cluster (7), Plaman Batang Cluster in Serian (6), Kampung Haji Baki Cluster (5), Long Urun Cluster in Belaga (4), Mundai Cluster in Serian (4), Kaman Cluster in Bau (4), Jalan Kemena Industry Estate 38 Cluster in Bintulu (2), Opar Cluster in Bau (2), Kampung Pulo Ulu (2), Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster (1), Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster (1), Kampung Kakeng Cluster in Serian (1), Jalan Lembah Hijau Cluster in Miri (1), KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster in Betong (1) and Ladang Hijau 01 Cluster in Beluru (1).
Altogether, 27 active clusters in Sarawak reported a total of 238 new cases.
