Sg Batang Oya boat crash throws 80yo man into river, feared drowned

MUKAH, Sept 2: An 80-year-old man was feared to have drowned in a boat crash in Sungai Batang Oya here this morning.

The victim was identified as Dos Katek from Kampung Klid Dalat.

According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call regarding the incident at 9.42am before despatching a team from the Mukah Fire Station (BBP) to the scene.

Bomba reported that based on information from Dalat District Police Headquarters (IPD), the caller said he was on his way to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) San San.

“Upon arriving at an area between Kampung Sua and Kampung Klid Oya, a collision between a speed boat and a perahu (boat) occurred.

“The victim hit the front of the speed boat, which resulted in him falling into the river,” the report said.

Following this, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated for the victim at 10.30am. — DayakDaily
