SFO to be reorganised for greater focus on serving farmers, breeders and fishermen

SERIAN, Aug 20: The new management of State Farmers’ Organisation (SFO) has been tasked to assist farmers, breeders and fishermen in Sarawak to market their products, revealed Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“The organisation has a new chairman in the person of Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.

“He is also the Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Native Land and Regional Development).


“Under him, the organisation will be reorganised to be more focused in serving the needs of those in the sector,” Uggah who is Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister disclosed during the launching of the Agriculture Community Outreach Programme at Kampung Riih Daso near here yesterday.

He added Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had specifically tasked SFO to provide such facilitation.

“He (Abang Johari) has advised it to liaise with Statos (Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore) which is our trade and tourism office in Singapore.

“We need to go into more overseas markets,” he added.

Uggah who is also Second Finance Minister disclosed all Area Farmers’ Organisations (AFO) have been asked to buy and process local products.

“Our farmers in particular have all along faced this problem of marketing.

“We want to help each farming family to have a monthly income of RM4,000 from their efforts. Then, they can have a better standard of living.

“This is the state government’s objectives for the people,” he added. — DayakDaily
