SERIAN, Aug 20: Farmers, breeders and fishermen are urged to embrace science and modern technology in their respective undertakings.

Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed belief that this would allow them to produce superior goods in order to compete with other producers in Asia.

“We are selling 2,000 live pigs to Singapore every week besides our tilapia fish. We are also selling our durian paste to China and Taiwan.

“There will be many more potential products for export,” Uggah emphasised during the launching of the Agriculture Community Outreach Programme at Kampung Riih Daso near here yesterday.

Uggah who is also the Deputy Chief Minister asserted people must have discipline, passion and commitment to succeed.

Earlier, he launched a community tilapia breeding project where 90,000 fish fry were released into netted enclosures in the village pond.

Among those present at the event were Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, State Agriculture Department director Dr Alvin Chai and Serian Resident Tuah Suni. — DayakDaily
