KUCHING, May 23: A 65-year-old man, suspected of molesting his stepdaughter for the last two years, was today remanded for six days to assist police in the investigation.

The remand order was granted by Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof.

Police are investigating the case under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years and shall also be liable to whipping.

The sexagenarian was arrested yesterday (May 22) at about 4.45pm at Kampung Temenggong in Jalan Matang.

The case came to light when the victim, who is now 17-years-old, was often absent from school. This prompted the school’s students’ affairs teacher to call her in for questioning on May 21.

The victim allegedly told the teacher that she relied on her stepfather to send her to school, but he would often stop the motorcycle by the roadside and touch her body. That is why she played truant as she was afraid. Upon hearing this, the teacher immediately lodged a police report.
