KUCHING, July 26: Several roads in Kuching will be closed to ensure the smooth operation of the parade of decorated floats on the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront on Saturday (July 29) in conjunction with Sarawak’s 60th anniversary of independence.
According to a statement by Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), road closures and detours will begin on July 29 at 4.30pm and will be lifted once the programme is complete.
The affected roads are:
• Jalan Wayang/Jalan Main Bazaar
• Jalan Old Court House
• Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang
• Jalan Power/Jalan Market
The public is advised to park in the designated areas, which are as follows:
• Reservoir Park
• Bangunan Saujana
• Medan Letak Kereta Sarawak Plaza
• Bangunan Medan Pelita
• Medan Letak Kereta Plaza Merdeka
“However, the necessity for the closure and diversion of these roads depends on the current situation, which is deemed appropriate by the traffic police officer-in-charge based on an evaluation of the traffic flow, so as not to disturb other road users who wish to engage in other daily activities.
“The general public is instructed to obey the traffic control signs as directed by the on-duty police officer, and it is prohibited to park vehicles on the road shoulders, as this will cause traffic congestion.
“Everyone’s cooperation is required to ensure that this programme runs smoothly,” the notice read. — DayakDaily
