Several cable thefts in Lutong-Kuala Baram solved with the arrest of three men

MIRI, Jan 27: Police believed they have solved several cases of cable thefts involving assets of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and Sarawak Energy in Kuala Baram, Kampung Sealine and Pujut following the arrest of three suspects.

Two of the suspects were detained on Jan 24, while the third suspect, aged 43, was arrested at 6.15am today at Kuala Batu 1, Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram.

According to Miri deputy police chief, Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol, a police team led by Inspector Fredly Juing discovered a pile of plastic insulation at Kuala Batu 1 beach.

It was believed that the copper wires inside the cables have been sold, with value estimated at RM5,000.

The third suspect being escorted to Miri Central police station for questioning.

Mohd Sabri said the case is being investigated under Section 431(a) of the Penal Code for mischief by injury to telegraph cable and wire. — DayakDaily
