KANOWIT, Jan 27: An elderly man who visited his relatives at Rh Joshua Medan at Sungai Tuah, Jalan Nibong Tada yesterday, has been reported missing.

The victim, Manis Lang, 73, from Long Napir, Limbang, was last seen at a swiftlet house located some 50 metres from the longhouse.

Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said they received a distress call at 3.50pm from Kanowit district police station following a missing person’s report lodged by the victim’s son, Robert Alois Manis, today.

Robert reported that his father went missing after the grandson, Petrus Sepun, dropped him off at the longhouse.

According to Robert, they realised his father was missing at about 2pm yesterday. He was wearing blue shirt and chocolate long pants. It was also learnt that Manis has memory loss due to stroke in the past.

“Family members and villagers tried searching for him but failed, prompting Robert to lodge a police report.

“A team of firefighters were immediately deployed to the longhouse and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated,” the statement said.

The SAR team by firefighters, police and villagers covered some 2km radius from where Manis was last seen. As at 7pm today the victim has yet to be found.
