KUCHING, July 19: Seven local loan shark suspects have been arrested by the police on suspicion of involvement in arson in Kota Samarahan, allegedly upon instructions of a foreign loan scam syndicate.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said in a statement today that a police report was received on July 7 in which the victim reported receiving a video message on WhatsApp of his house in Kota Samarahan being burned.
“Three other reports were also received from the victim, which involved his house and furniture shop being splashed with red paint,” Mohd Azman said.
According to preliminary investigation, the suspects were paid RM1,500 each to carry out the crimes after being recruited on social media.
“The police are now actively tracking the loan shark syndicate in order to conduct further investigation. Any information can be directed to Insp Mustapha Ramli, the investigating officer, at 019-8145090,” Mohd Azman added.
