Seven individuals face charges for using fake QR Pay transactions at Padawan supermarkets

KUCHING, May 1: Five men and two women appeared before the Kuching Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (April 30) on four charges related to a fraud case involving the use of fake QR Pay code receipts for payments.

In a TVS news report, Padawan District Police chief, Superintendent Mohd Irwan Hafiz MD Radzi, stated that the seven individuals are accused of committing the offense at four supermarkets in the Padawan district.

“All the suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were arrested on April 15 and April 17 by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) of the Padawan District Police Headquarters.

“Four investigation papers have been opened and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

He further stated that if convicted, the accused could face imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, along with a fine and whipping.

“The public, particularly business owners, are advised to exercise caution when customers make payments via the QR Pay method.

“Ensure that transactions are verified before allowing the customer to leave,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
