KUCHING, Feb 7: The State Health Department today revealed the emergence of the new Seruas Cluster which is a community cluster involving one longhouse in Serawong Tengah, Seruas, Bakong in Beluru district.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today, said the Seruas Cluster involved index Case 4,308, who is a 61-year-old woman. She was confirmed positive for Covid-19 through symptomatic screening test on Jan 28, 2021.
“The spread of the infection is believed to have occurred through close contact of visitors during a funeral ceremony in the longhouse that was held on Jan 25 until 27, this year.
“The longhouse has also been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), and as a result of the active case detection and close contact screening from the index case, as well as residents in the Serawong Tengah longhouse, an additional 58 new positive cases has been detected,” it said.
According to SDMC, as of 12pm today, a total of 150 individuals has been screened, with a total of 59 individuals testing positive for Covid-19 and 29 others negative, while another 62 are still pending test results.
Meanwhile, SDMC said a total of 15 clusters remained active throughout the state, including the Seruas Cluster in Beluru, Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman, Jun Heng Cluster in Bintulu, Bintang Daily Cluser in Meradong, Jalan Pangiran Cluster in Matu, Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching, Bedayan Cluster in Serian, Rakut Cluster in Miri, Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh, Jelita Cluster in Miri, Pasai Cluster in Sibu, Keranji Tabuan Cluster in Kuching, Bah Sayap Cluser in Miri, and Stutong Cluster in Kuching.
Additional cases were also recorded in four clusters today, namely in the Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching, Rakut and Jelita Clusters in Miri, and Pasai Cluster in Sibu.
“The Indah Riang cluster recorded one additional case which was detected today bringing the total number of cases to 20, whereby a total of 222 individuals has been screened, with 187 of them negative, while 14 others are pending test results.
“For the Rakut Cluster in Miri, a total of five additional cases were recorded as of today, bringing the total number of cases to 156, whereby 600 individuals were screened, with 422 negative, and 22 others still waiting for test results.
“The Jelita Cluster also recorded one additional new case bringing the total number of cases from the cluster to 56 cases. From the total of 350 individuals who were screened, 282 of them are negative and 22 others are still waiting for test results.
“The Pasai Cluster recorded a total of 71 new cases today, which brings the total number of cases to 2,359 cases. A total of 25,500 individuals has been screened where 22,600 of them are negative and 541 still pending test results,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
