Covid-19: Sibu and Song accounts for almost half of 219 new cases reported in Sarawak

KUCHING, Feb 7: Sibu and Song have contributed almost half of Sarawak’s 219 new Covid-19 cases today.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reports today, Sibu and Song recorded 55 and 50 cases respectively.


Other districts also saw increases in case numbers: Beluru (35), Miri (32), Kapit (25), Samarahan (5), Kanowit (5), Bintulu (4), Bukit Mabong (3), Betong (1), Kuching (1), Lundu (1), Saratok (1) and Subis (1).

Keeping its status as the biggest cluster in Sarawak, the Pasai Cluster which originated from Sibu continued to spread to seven districts today, namely Song with 43 cases, Kapit (21), Bukit Mabong (3), Sibu (1), Beluru (1), Lundu (1) and Subis (1).

New cases linked to the newly confirmed Seruas Cluster were also detected in Bintulu (34) while the Rakut Cluster registered three cases in Miri and two in Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Miri reported one new case linked to the Jelita Cluster and Kuching recorded one case traced to the Indah Riang Cluster.

The number of Covid-19 cases among medical staff increased again today, with two in Miri and one in Sibu testing positive.

Those who tested positive after developing symptoms were found in Sibu (14), Bintulu (1), Betong (1) and Saratok (1). Seven more cases were reported to have been discovered via tests at various health centres across the state, with five in Sibu and two in Miri.

The remaining cases were discovered via close contact tracing of Covid-19 cases in Sibu (34), Miri (24), Song (7), Kanowit (5), Samarahan (5), Kapit (4) and Bintulu (1).

With 219 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 5,676.

SDMC also reported two fatalities involving two Sibu residents who had co-morbid medical histories of high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes and stroke.

Sarawak reported 134 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (79), Miri Hospital (24), Bintulu Hospital (11), Kapit Hospital (9), Sarawak General Hospital (6), Limbang Hospital (4) and PKRC Sipitang (1) respectively.

In the meantime, 1,874 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.

There are 249 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases and 36 cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are also 541 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) who have been registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 6,033 individuals under quarantine in 83 hotels throughout Sarawak. A total of 61,259 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
