Serian Pagar Cluster emerges after detainees test positive for Covid-19 in Serian police lockup

KUCHING, July 8: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has recorded a new Covid-19 cluster at the Serian District Police lockup through swabbing of the detainees there.

According to SDMC, the new cluster, dubbed the Serian Pagar Cluster, involved suspects arrested at Serian and Simunjan districts.

A total of 38 were swabbed for Covid-19, out of which 14 tested positive. Among the 14 positive cases, 12 are Indonesians while two are locals.


The rest of the 24 swabbed returned negative Covid-19 results.

Those who tested positive for Covid-19 have been sent to Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centres at Serian District for quarantine and treatment.

While announcing the emergence of the Serian Pagar Cluster today, SDMC also declared the end of the Bunut Cluster in Mukah, after no new cases were detected in the last 28 days.

With a new cluster emerging and one cluster ending, the total number of active clusters in Sarawak remains at 97.

As of today, out of the 97 active clusters, 17 of them are still yielding new cases with 32 detected while the rest of the 80 did not show any increase of cases related to Covid-19. — DayakDaily
