Serian outbreak: 36 brick factory workers test positive, five new clusters emerge

KUCHING, Aug 18: Some 36 workers of a brick factory located at 25 th Mile Kuching-Serian Road tested positive for Covid-19, triggering a new workplace cluster called Batu 25 Jalan Kuching-Serian Cluster.

The Batu 25 Jalan Kuching-Serian Cluster was one of the five new clusters of Covid-19 identified in Serian today.

According to a report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), five new clusters of coronavirus were identified in Serian involving one workplace cluster and four community clusters.

The four community clusters were the Tanah Mawang Cluster, the Semada Cluster, the Ensebang Plaie Cluster and the Kampung Sungai Linsat Cluster.

For the Kampung Sungai Linsat Cluster, 65 villagers tested positive for Covid-19 out of 72 villagers swabbed while there was also one death case reported.

As for the Semada Cluster, 55 villagers from Kampung Semada Tengah, Semada Mawang and Semada Belatok located at Jalan-Serian-Sri Aman were tested positive for Covid-19 out of the 76 residents swabbed.

For the Tanah Mawang Cluster, 54 villagers identified at Kampung Tanah Mawang located at Jalan Serian-Sri Aman were found to be positive for Covid-19 out of the 77 swabbed.

As for the Ensebang Plaie Cluster, 34 villagers of Ensebang Plaie Village were tested positive out of the total 38 villagers swabbed while the remaining four villagers tested negative.

SDMC said all Covid-19 patients from the clusters in Serian have been admitted to health facilities including quarantine and low risk treatment centres in Serian and Samarahan for treatment. — DayakDaily
