KUCHING, June 4: The Bidayuhs must preserve their colourful culture and tradition as it is part of their identity, said Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem.

He said it was also vital for the community to continue celebrating Gawai Dayak as it helped to unite the community.

“Let us continue to preserve our unique culture and tradition, especially by celebrating Gawai. We must also make an effort to wear our traditional costumes during the festive season as it is part of our culture,” Riot told DayakDaily here today.

Riot, who is formerly Minister of Human Resources, also advised the community to put greater emphasis on education, especially those pertaining to skills training.

“This way, we will be much better prepared to face the challenging job market in future,” he said as a matter-of-factly.

He also hoped the Bidayuh community would continue to contribute towards peace and harmony in the state and country.

“We are a small community. So, let us do our part to preserve peace and harmony in our country,” he reminded.
