KUCHING, Jan 8: A 31-year-old resident of Kampung Ampungan, Serian, has been sentenced to two months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing six cans of adult formula milk from a pharmacy.
Marlvin Vale Dahot Munga pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing six cans of adult formula milk from a pharmacy, as per Section 380 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali convicted him as charged and sentenced him to two months imprisonment.
It is understood that the accused is currently serving a sentence for offences under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 related to repeated involvement in drug abuse activities.
According to the charge, Marlvin and his accomplice committed the theft at a pharmacy on Jalan Liu Shan Bang, Kota Sentosa, at approximately 10.40am on Nov 12, 2023.
In the course of the case, the pharmacist, who was the complainant, received a report from a colleague that six units of formula milk were missing, amounting to an estimated loss of around RM707.32.
A review of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage revealed two unidentified men stealing the cans of milk by concealing them within their clothing. The CCTV footage also identified the accused using a brown Proton Saga, leaving the premises after the incident.
The complainant promptly filed a police report, leading to further investigation and, subsequently, the arrest of the accused on November 14, 2023.
Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, the prosecuting officer, requested an appropriate sentence for the accused as a deterrent. — DayakDaily
