KUCHING, May 8: Serian District Council (SDC) chairman Dato Peter Minos has assured that efforts are being made expedite the implementation of delayed government-approved projects in Teng Bekap, Kampung Pesang, and Kampung Panchor Dayak.

During a site visit today with fellow councillors, Minos inspected the three project sites, which had been approved and funded by the government but have yet to get off the ground due to various setbacks.

The Kampung Pesang and Kampung Panchor Dayak projects are tourism-related, while the Teng Bekap project involves the construction of a bazaar (pasar tamu).

“Minister (for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah recommended those projects and they were approved by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), and SDC was tasked to implement them,” Minos explained.

He said villagers expressed disappointment over the delays and urged the council to speed up implementation.

“They sounded not happy and pleaded that SDC, the implementer, speed up, and I said I would definitely follow up and get cracking,” he added.

With that, Minos also urged relevant government agencies “wake up and shape up” as people will not be pleased if projects are inordinately delayed.

He assured residents that SDC will intensify efforts to ensure the stalled projects move forward without further delay.

“It is not fair and definitely not good for the villagers to wait and wait… their patience is not limitless,” he added. – DayakDaily
