KUCHING, July 15: Outpatient services at the Sentosa Hospital will continue through teleconsultation and medication collection services are to be provided on a drive-thru basis following the recent confirmation of the Sentosa 2 Cluster onsite.

State Health director Dato Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed said this was one of the control measures implemented by the Kuching Divisional Health Office to curb the spread of Covid-19 at the facility.

While active case detection (ACD) is being carried out on close contacts, he said terminal cleaning is underway at all related locations in the hospital.

Admission of patients into wards and accused persons (OKT) into the Men’s Forensic Wards were also stopped effective yesterday (July 14).

As the electroconvulsive therapy sessions involving aerosol procedures have been halted since July 12, outpatients requiring periodic electroconvulsive services will be referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for now.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohamed Sapian said the Occupational Safety and Health Unit will monitor the health of all officers involved and the infection control practices among staff and health workers have been tightened by the Infection Control Unit.

“The Sarawak State Health Department calls on the public to continue to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) and adopt new norms including regular handwashing, wearing face masks and practising social distancing, despite having the Covid-19 vaccination,” he said in a statement today.

On July 12, a health officer of Sentosa Hospital tested positive for Covid-19 and following that, close contact screenings as of 6pm, July 14 found 56 positive cases.

The confirmed cases comprised 24 health workers, 28 in-patients, one concession company employee and three close contacts under one roof. — DayakDaily
