KUCHING, Feb 7: Sentosa Hospital will soon see significant improvements with the construction of 40 additional parking bays and upgrades to its occupational therapy and recreation hall under a RM400,000 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) initiative.
The long-awaited project, funded through the allocation of Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, aims to address the hospital’s critical parking shortage while improving facilities for patients undergoing therapy.
Yap shared that the issue was first brought to his attention two years ago, following public complaints about difficulties in securing parking spaces, often leading to delays in medical appointments.
“The lack of parking bays, along with vehicles being parked along the roadside, has created unnecessary congestion and inconvenience for those seeking mental health services at the hospital,” he said in a statement after handing over the site to contractor Megah Jaya Enterprise today.
Apart from the parking expansion, the hospital’s occupational therapy and recreation hall will undergo major improvements, including the installation of air conditioning units, new aluminium windows, wiring, tiling, and partitioning.
The project also involves earthworks, concrete drainage, pre-mix road surfacing, and lane marking to enhance accessibility within the premises.
The project, implemented by the Padawan Municipal Council, is expected to be completed within four months, with an estimated completion date of June 2025.
Yap also urged the implementing agency to closely monitor the progress to ensure timely completion with high-quality standards.
“Once completed, the additional parking spaces will have proper entry and exit points, significantly easing traffic congestion within the hospital compound. This initiative aims to improve hospital accessibility and enhance the overall experience for patients and visitors,” he added. – DayakDaily
