Senior citizen found dead after checking on fishing net at Sg Kanowit

KUCHING, March 31: The body of a missing senior citizen who was feared drowned was found at 11.20am at Nanga Julau in Bintangor today after a three-day search and rescue (SAR) operation.

In a Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report, the body of 75-year-old Chong Yik Teck was found by villagers near the riverbank, approximately 5km from where the victim’s boat was.

The body was brought to the Bomba control post and handed over to the police for further action.

Based on the chronology of events, an emergency call was received regarding the victim’s missing whereabouts at 4.18pm on March 29, and firefighters from the Bintangor station were deployed.

According to information obtained, at around 12pm, the victim was said to have gone out to Sungai Kanowit to check on the fishing net set there.

After failing to return, a concerned family member went to look for the victim. The boat the victim used was found tied up, but the victim was nowhere to be seen. — DayakDaily
