KUCHING, March 19: Seng Goon Garden’s community park is set for a RM100,000 upgrade under Batu Kitang constituency’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), with improvements to infrastructure and facilities aimed at providing a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable space for residents.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang announced that the project, implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) Kuching, will focus on enhancing pathways, drainage, and open spaces to address community concerns and promote outdoor activities.

“One of the key issues raised by the community is the overgrowth of grass over interlocking tiles, making the park uneven and difficult to maintain. To address this, we will be laying a two-inch concrete layer (BMC) to prevent grass growth and create a smoother surface for walking, jogging, and other recreational activities,” he said in a statement after visiting the park today.

Additionally, the project includes widening pathways to improve accessibility, as well as upgrading the drainage system by deepening and widening drains to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.

“We understand that many residents use the park for activities such as tai chi and jogging, and the uneven terrain has been a hindrance. By levelling the ground and providing a more stable surface, we hope to encourage more residents to engage in healthy outdoor activities,” he added.

To accommodate the growing number of visitors, additional parking spaces will be created, making it more convenient for families and individuals to visit the park.

Lo expressed gratitude to JKR Kuching for their dedication in ensuring the project meets the highest standards. He also acknowledged community feedback, which played a crucial role in shaping the design.

He emphasised that additional funding may be sought if necessary to further enhance the park’s features.

“This park upgrading project is a testament to our commitment to improving the quality of life for Batu Kitang residents. By providing a well-maintained and accessible public space, we hope to foster a stronger sense of community and encourage a healthier lifestyle,” Lo said.

He looks forward to seeing the positive impact of the project and urged the community to work together to make Seng Goon Garden’s Park a place of pride for all. — DayakDaily
