KUCHING, Feb 20: Senator Abun Sui Anyit urges the fair distribution of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd’s (Petros) growing income across the State to support infrastructure developments, including in rural areas.
In a press statement, Abun, who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Hulu Rajang branch chief, said the collaboration between Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) underscores a shared commitment to sustainable energy development, economic growth, and the well-being of the people of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.
“As there are increases in the income of the Petros and Sarawak coffers as a whole for Sarawak, I urge that the distribution will be made fairly throughout Sarawak without leaving rural areas in terms of infrastructure developments,” he said.
Petros is designated as Sarawak’s sole gas aggregator, ensuring a streamlined and efficient distribution system for the State’s domestic needs.
The agreement between Petronas and Petros guarantees Petros up to 1.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, with provisions for additional supply based on future requirements, thereby securing Sarawak’s energy needs.
Both entities have committed to a consultative approach, fostering transparent commercial principles and mutual benefits in all future endeavors.
This agreement represents a pivotal development in Malaysia’s energy landscape, balancing Sarawak’s aspirations for greater control over its resources with the need for national cohesion and investment stability. – DayakDaily
