Senadin Lake murder: Local man charged with murdering uncle appears in Magistrates Court

MIRI, May 2: In a solemn session at the Magistrates Court in Miri today, a local man faced the weighty charge of murdering his own uncle.

The accused, Danien Elia, 31, stood before Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy as the charge was read aloud.


According to the charge sheet, Danien who is unemployed is accused of causing the death of Lah Wan, 57, on April 17 between 5am to 9.03am by the lake road leading to the Lakeshore Villa Senadin.

The victim’s body was discovered floating in Tasik Senadin on the morning of April 17. It was members of the public who stumbled upon the grim sight around 9am.

The accused faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, indicating the severity of the alleged offense. During the proceedings, no plea was recorded from the accused with no bail being offered.

Magistrate Sandy then set June 6 for further mention of the pending chemist report and post mortem report.

Leading the prosecution is ASP Mary Ong, while the accused is not represented by legal counsel.

The accused’s swift apprehension by authorities is noteworthy, having been arrested within six hours after the discovery of the victim’s body. Following his arrest, the suspect was promptly remanded for seven days, with an additional seven-day extension granted for further questioning. — DayakDaily
