KUCHING, May 2: An escalator fire broke out in the basement of a shopping complex in the downtown area here yesterday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak confirmed receiving report of the incident at 5.28pm.
Firefighters from Padungan and Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP) were instantly deployed to the scene of the incident.
“On arrival at the scene, it was found that there was indeed a fire coming from an escalator in the basement of the shopping complex,” said the spokesperson.
He said the fire was successfully extinguished by the emergency response team and no casualties or injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. — DayakDaily
