MIRI, April 18: In a swift move, Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel have detained a male suspect in connection with the recent discovery of a body floating in a lake in Senadin.

Less than six hours after the grim discovery, authorities took the victim’s nephew into custody for questioning.

According to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the suspect in his 30s was detained that same day, around 2pm in a house at Tudan Lot Residential area.

On Wednesday morning (April 17), the body of a 57-year-old man was found, floating in a lake in Senadin at around 9am by a member of the public.

“Upon viewing the body, forensic experts identified six impact injuries, with the most severe located on the victim’s head,” Alexson disclosed.

These injuries, suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object, are believed to be the primary cause of death, he added.

One impact injury was observed on the back of the body, indicative of a struggle or altercation.

“Lastly, an impact injury was identified on the victim’s left knee, indicating potential additional trauma sustained during the altercation,” Alexson said, adding that detectives are working tirelessly to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding the death.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — DayakDaily
