KUCHING, Sept 15: The Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra) only developed 380 hectares out of the 5,000-hectare gazetted land in Pasai Siong in Sibu after five years and had ‘cabut lari’ (run away).
Selangau MP Edwin Banta said this had resulted in dissatisfaction among the landowners.
“The Pasai Siong Native Customary Right (NCR) project was abandoned after only operating for five years.
“A total of 5,000 hectares were gazetted by the Sarawak government to be developed, and Felcra was only able to develop 380 hectares within five years only and ‘cabut lari’,” he said during the Half-Term Review (KSP) of 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) debate in Parliament yesterday.
He also mentioned that in Sekuau, Felcra was only able to provide dividends to participants a total of eight times throughout the 30-year operation period.
“This caused the participants not to be interested in continuing the second circle and wanted Felcra out of continuing to cultivate their land,” he added. — DayakDaily
