KUCHING, Sept 15: The Selangau folk are questioning the status of water plant projects in Stapang, Selangau, and Sangan, as well as the ‘sick’ solar panel system installation projects in Ulu Mukah, Selangau.
Selangau MP Edwin Banta said the water plant projects in Stapang, Selangau, and Sangan were announced in 2016.
“Thus, if approved, please expedite the projects without any more delay,” he said during the Half-Term Review (KSP) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) debate in Parliament yesterday.
Additionally, he said there are several longhouse areas in Selangau affected due to the Pan Borneo Highway construction project and the opening of oil palm plantations, especially Kelawit, where their water supply is now affected.
“It is my hope for the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to take notice by distributing water tanks as an alternative and temporary mitigation as soon as possible,” he added.
At the same time, Edwin highlighted that the solar panel system installation projects in SK Sg Arau, Rh Uban, Rh Anding, Rh Sandom and Rh Ampa in Ulu Mukah, Selangau, have commenced since 2016 but failed to be completed until today.
Among others, he also called for the provision of smart televisions in rural primary schools in Selangau to empower the learning and education system; the provision of grants or coffee beans, fertilizer and cultivation equipment to develop coffee-planting; and federal allocation to complement the Sarawak government’s funding to build longhouses in the State. — DayakDaily
