Sega Cluster witnesses a surge of 94 new cases bringing cumulative cases to 159

KUCHING, Aug 16: The Sega Cluster of Covid-19 from Bau added 94 new cases today, increasing the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the cluster as of to date to 159 since it was declared on July 5.

According to a report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Sega Cluster registered the highest number of new cases among the active clusters of coronavirus in the State.


The cluster was identified at Kampung Sega in Serembu, Bau involving a few families from different houses.

At present, a total of 250 individuals from the cluster have been swabbed while 12 individuals are still awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

Moving on, 57 more Covid-19 cases emerged from the Kampung Quop Cluster bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus cases for the cluster to 163.

The cluster, which reported the second highest number of new cases among the active clusters in Sarawak, was identified on July 29 involving residents of a few houses at 10th Mile, Kota Padawan.

There were 43 new Covid-19 cases added to the Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong making the cluster with the third highest number of new cases among all the active clusters in Sarawak.

The Kampung Git Cluster identified on July 31 involving a few families in a village located at Kilometre 27, off Jalan Puncak Borneo produced another 35 cases of Covid-19 bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases for the cluster to 162.

The Mega Suai Cluster in Niah which involved workers and family members of an oil palm plantation saw another 24 new cases today bringing cumulative cases to 229.

The Jalan Airport Lama Cluster in Bintulu, a new cluster witnessed 10 new cases of coronavirus making the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases for the cluster to 12 people.

The other active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak which reported nine cases and below are the Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster with nine cases, Kampung Pulo Ulu Cluster (8), Kampung Pandan Cluster (7), Lubuk Bukut Cluster (4), Jalan Buan Cluster (4), Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster (3), Sessang Cluster (3), Braang Payang Cluster (3), Kampung Kendaie Cluster (2), Kandis Pantu Cluster (2), Sungai Menok Cluster (2), Kampung Bintawa Ulu (1) and Bandar Riyal Cluster (1).

Altogether, there were 19 active clusters of Covid-19 out of the 107 active clusters throughout the State which reported a whopping 312 new cases. — DayakDaily
