GPS and PN have served interest of Sarawak during Muhyiddin’s tenure as PM

Senator Robert Lau

SIBU, Aug 16:  The State Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has chosen to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister for the last 18 months and remained loyal all because of the need to have a stable government.

SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Senator Robert Lau, in a statement today, opined that GPS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have served the interest of Sarawak during this 18-month period.

“The most significant is to get the federal government and Petronas to accept the State Sales Tax and pay the 5 per cent petroleum royalty to Sarawak Government since 2019.

“This contrast with the first action taken by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in relation to Sarawak was to get Petronas to sue Sarawak to annul the State’s Oil Mining Ordinance 1998 and the refusal to acknowledge the State Sales Tax. At the same time PH reneged on its election promise of giving Sarawak 20 per cent of oil royalty,”said Lau.

When it comes to the choice of the next prime minister, he said GPS would take the interest of Sarawak and the respect for Malaysia Agreement 1963 as of paramount importance in addition to the need to have a stable government.

“It is also an opportune time to seek for the return of autonomy for health care and education. The delegation of power to Sarawak to look after these two portfolios will make the administration smoother and more efficient for Sarawak as well as for the country. Too much power has been concentrated in Putrajaya,” he added. — DayakDaily
