Security guard fined RM2,000 for stealing copper plate from shooting range

KUCHING, Aug 14: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a security guard to a fine of RM2,000 for stealing the lightning rod belonging to the Sarawak Shooting Range.

Hanif Pa’at, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 379 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.


Magistrate Syarifah convicted Hanif as charged and sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 or in default to 3 months’ imprisonment.

Hanif was charged with stealing a copper plate which was used to protect against lightning strikes at the Sarawak Shooting Range, at about 11pm on August 2, 2022.

According to the brief facts of the case, an employees of Sarawak Shooting Range lodged a police report after he found out that a copper plate at the shooting range had been stolen.

The police then arrested the accused at about 11am on August 10 and a receipt from a metal recycling company was found during the arrest.
