Sebuyau town centre hit by flash floods

KUCHING, Oct 19: Areas around Sebuyau town centre experienced flash floods with some parts covered with flood water as high as 6.5 metres as of 5.30 pm yesterday (Sunday).

According to Simunjan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Mat Undek, during the occurence of flash floods, there was no rain.

Meanwhile, according to a report of Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (Ukas), the flash floods due to strong winds had caused river water level to rise rapidly.

The strong river current caused by the strong winds broke through embankment along the coast to giving way to flash floods. Several houses along the coast were found damaged.

Among the adversely affected areas are Batang Lupar Giat Mara area, Kampung Baru Sebuyau, Kampung Hilir Sebuyau, Sebuyau township, Kampung Hulu, Kampung Seberang, Kampung Bajong, Kampung Tungkah and other low-lying areas. —DayakDaily
