Search for 87yo woman in Marudi stands down after 7 days

MARUDI, June 19: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for an 87-year-old woman from Rh Chabop, Sungai Tarak, Lubok Amam reported missing since June 12, was stood down today.

According to a report by Marudi District Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer Lt Mirwan Shah Masri, the decision to end the 7-day search was made by Marudi police chief DSP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib at 4pm earlier.

In a separate statement by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the SAR team will be reactivated upon receiving new leads on the missing woman.

The woman, Nyawa Unjong, was reported missing after she went out around 10.30am last Wednesday (June 12) and failed to return home.

In an initial search conducted on June 13, the SAR team found a basket believed to belong to the missing woman about 300 metres from the longhouse. — DayakDaily
