SIBU, May 18: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu presented donations to 13 special education students from SMK Sungai Merah yesterday in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration.
SDNU Sibu vice chairman Johnady Jantom who represented chairman Chambai Lindong presented the donations to the school’s principal, Wong Siew Ling.
Also present at the presentation was the Senior Assistant for Special Education, Ling Chu Siong, Programme Coordinators Laura Brown and Louisiana Utica Noed, and SDNU Welfare Bureau head Anyie Angking.
Wong expressed her gratitude and thanks to SDNU Sibu for showing concern for the needs of these special students ahead of the Gawai Dayak celebration on June 1 and 2.
“I am also very moved because the dream of the special children to celebrate Gawai will be fulfilled like other normal children especially in a very challenging situation post-pandemic,” she said.
Meanwhile Brown said SDNU’s generous act will make the recipients feel appreciated, remembered and loved by people.
Johnady who spoke on behalf of Chambai expressed hope their efforts to treat the less fortunate will continue to receive attention and support not only from NGOs but also from individuals regardless of religion and race.
He also asserted that although the aid given by SDNU Sibu for the first time was not that much, he was very confident and believed that the aid recipients would get the benefits they craved for, especially ahead of the Gawai celebration.
“I want SDNU Sibu Welfare Bureau to continue this noble endeavor in the future because good practices like this can bring happiness to those who really need it,” he said. — DayakDaily
