KUCHING, July 20: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang urges State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to consider deferring reopening of all schools in Samarahan District to Aug 3.

The request was put forth in view of raising number of Covid-19 cases in Kuching District as well as close proximity between Kuching and Samarahan Districts.

“I believe that reopening of schools in Samarahan District should be deferred for two weeks, just like all schools in Kuching District.

“This is because many teachers in Samarahan are from Kuching District.

“There also seems to be raising number of cases in Kuching. And Kuching and Samarahan Districts are nearby each other. It is only logical that SDMC should also consider school reopening to be delayed for Samarahan, like it did for Kuching,” Idris told DayakDaily.

Idris said this is the concern of his constituents who are parents and he was only helping to relay their concern.

“I do hope SDMC will seriously consider the requests of our parents,” said Idris.

Yesterday (July 19), Kuching recorded six new Covid-19 cases and on July 18 (Saturday), there were also six new cases in Kuching while there was one in Bintulu.

On July 17, 10 new cases were reported with six in Kuching, two in Samarahan and two in Bintulu.

The raising number of cases had caused SDMC to announce school reopening to be delayed for all schools in Kuching District. — DayakDaily
