KUCHING, July 2: The Scout Matang Campsite can become another landmark for Sarawak, said President of the Sarawak Scout Council Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

According to Mawan, situated at the foot of Mount Serapi and surrounded by nature, flora and fauna, including various insects and creatures, Scout Matang Campsite will definitely fascinate everyone.

“The campsite had perfect facilities before it was destroyed by a natural disaster, which the Sarawak Scout Council and ‘Pandu Puteri’ Association are working together to reconstruct.

“With the blessings of Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, hopefully the project will start soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, the acting chief Scout of Malaysia, Prof Dato Dr Mohd Zin Bidin, said Sarawak Scout Council has also shown interest in upgrading Matang Campsite into a Scout Centre of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability (Scenes).

As a Scene centre, Sarawak Scout Council is committed to protecting its natural environment and minimising its environmental impact.

“It also enables all who relate to the centre to engage with nature and are empowered to make their own personal commitment to preserve and conserve the environment,” he added. — DayakDaily
