KUCHING, July 2: The launch of Sarawak Command Net (SCNet) by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg marks a strategic move to strengthen the State’s security infrastructure and to enhance tactical communication between the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) and other enforcement agencies.

“The SCNet technology will improve coordination and operational efficiency between UKPS and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and other security agencies,” he said, according to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), during the launch of SCNet in conjunction with the 8th Anniversary Celebration of UKPS last night.

According to TVS, he further explained that the implementation of SCNet is an important step in facing the challenges of the digital era by using advanced technology to facilitate the delivery of information between enforcement agencies.

Abang Johari also praised the success of UKPS which has achieved 100 per cent conviction in case investigations which reflects the team’s commitment and thoroughness in carrying out law enforcement duties with full professionalism.

“This is a good achievement because sometimes, if the evidence we have is not sufficient, we will lose at the court level. If we lose, they (offenders) may repeat the same acts such as trespassing, stealing and so on,” he said.

He added that UKPS plays a critical role in addressing security issues such as smuggling and theft, especially in remote areas that are difficult to access.

With the launch of SCNet and the announcement of a scholarship programme to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, the Sarawak Government aims to create a more dynamic and competitive security ecosystem, in line with Sarawak’s vision of becoming a developed state.

Also present at the event were Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, UKPS director Datu Dr Chai Khin Chung, along with other distinguished guests. – DayakDaily
