KUCHING, Dec 27: A school teacher accused of sexual assault and rape by several students from a secondary school in Sebauh, Bintulu, is believed to have been arrested by the police in Thailand.

According to ‘Dari D9 Ke Tahanan Tanpa Bicara’ Facebook page on Dec 24, the suspect was apprehended in Thailand recently.

While there were no further details on the arrest, the page had inserted a photo depicting a man in handcuffs, believed to be the suspect, standing in between two men believed to be the police, at a police station in Thailand.

However, Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit told DayakDaily that he has yet to receive any information and could not confirm the arrest.

“Once I have the full details, I will issue a statement later,” he said today.

The suspect, 33, was accused of sexually assaulting or raping his student following a police report on July 27 this year.

It was understood that the teacher was called in for questioning but he had denied the allegations, accused the victim of making a false report and granted bail.

On July 29, another student had lodged a report against the suspect, claiming to have been groped in a music room in the school.

However, the suspect was believed to have escaped to Kelantan.

Both the school girls are 14-year-olds of Kayan descent.

The suspect, who hails from Tumpat, Kelantan will be investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape. — DayakDaily
