MIRI, July 20: With primary schools reopening starting July 24 after nearly four months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin today reminded school bus operators to strictly adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.
This includes conducting routine cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces within school buses.
He highlighted this when met this morning at the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station with several school bus operators in this division after attended a briefing session with Zone 6 Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong on comprehensive cleaning for infection control which prevents the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
“That is why, I have made this arrangement (the programme with Bomba Lopeng) so that they (school bus operators) would know how they can clean their school buses, because they are going to operate at full capacity starting next week with primary schools reopening,” he said.
Lee added, it is crucial that school bus operators understand how standard operating procedures (SOPs) work to ensure everyone’s safety.
Meanwhile, on the government’s RM600 special assistance for school bus drivers, a total of 384 eligible school bus drivers in Sarawak have been approved to receive their payment by the end of this month.
For Miri division, a total of 101 eligible school bus drivers have been approved for the special assistance.
The special assistance is granted to school bus drivers with a valid driver licence and who use registered vehicles from licensed school bus operators. — DayakDaily
