KUCHING, Oct 2: The Sarawak Biodiversity Council (SBC) and its subsidiary, BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd (BVT), have taken a significant step in advancing the development of high-value natural products by engaging with HK Kolmar R&D Complex in South Korea.
According to a media release today, the collaboration aims to leverage Borneo’s unique biological resources to create innovative, commercially viable products for both regional and global markets.
HK Kolmar, a global leader in Original Development & Manufacturing (ODM) for cosmetics, personal care, health-functional foods, and pharmaceuticals, hosted the strategic engagement.
Renowned for its technological expertise and sustainable innovation, Kolmar employs approximately 1,300 staff, with 30 per cent dedicated to research and development (R&D), serves over 22,000 companies worldwide, and generates USD2.38 billion in annual revenue.
The company holds over 9,700 intellectual property rights and provides end-to-end solutions encompassing trend research, product formulation, manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory support. Its prestigious client portfolio includes global brands such as Amorepacific, L’Oréal, Sephora, and Olive Young.
Discussions during the engagement focused on Kolmar’s advanced R&D methodologies, innovative manufacturing processes, and approaches to scaling high-value natural ingredients.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen SBC’s mission of transforming Sarawak’s rich biodiversity into ethically sourced, commercially viable products while ensuring equitable benefit-sharing with indigenous communities.
The Sarawak delegation was led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) and SBC chairman Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.
Key members included permanent secretary to the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and SBC deputy chairman Adana Jed; council member and Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak Datu Jack Liam; Department of Agriculture director Dominic Chunggat; Integrated Research Associates LLC chief technical officer Dr Mary Jane Cardosa; Instacom Engineering Sdn Bhd CEO Anne Kung Soo Ching;, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre CEO Dato Dr Yeo Tiong Chia; and BVT CEO Ts Hazwan Razak.
