KUCHING, Aug 22: The much-anticipated Sarikei Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang Bridge Half Marathon 2026, scheduled for tomorrow (Aug 23), has been cancelled due to concerns over weather conditions and deteriorating air quality.
According to Unisports Club, which announced the cancellation in a Facebook post yesterday (Aug 21), the decision followed advice from the Sarikei Divisional Health Office.
“The decision was made following advice from the Sarikei Divisional Health Office, after taking into consideration the current weather and air quality conditions, as well as the risks to the health and safety of participants, organisers and all parties involved,” it said in a post.
The organiser said there would be no postponement or replacement race, while registration fees would remain non-refundable.
Race entitlements, including race entry packs and medals, may be delivered or couriered upon request, with runners fully covering delivery charges. A Google Form will be provided for runners who wish to request delivery.
All registered runners may collect their finisher T-shirts and medals during today’s (Aug 22) race entry pack collection, and representatives may collect the items on their behalf.
Race entry pack collection is being held from 9am to 6pm at Dewan Suarah Sarikei, and participants should bring their identity card (IC) and receipt.
Despite the cancellation, the organiser said it would hold a small gathering from 3pm to 7pm tonight, featuring a tea gathering, lucky draw, and group photo session.
Runners are encouraged to wear their runner shirts and bring along their medals to join the gathering and capture a final memory of the event.
The organiser apologised for the cancellation and thanked participants for their patience, understanding, and support throughout the event preparations. — DayakDaily
