KUCHING, Aug 3: Sarawak’s young singing talent Taylor Louise has received the Winner Showcase Award during the 10th Anniversary Asia Student Arts Festival (ASAF) held at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London, marking another proud milestone for Malaysia on the international stage.

The 11-year-old from Kuching delivered a captivating performance at the Britten Theatre, where she sang Adele’s Easy On Me and Quiet from Matilda the Musical.

Her emotional delivery and confident stage presence moved the audience and impressed the judges.

Presented by renowned British baritone Jerome Knox, the Winner Showcase Award recognises Taylor as one of the standout performers of the evening.

She was the only Sarawakian Malaysian to receive the award at this year’s special edition of ASAF, which gathered top young talents from across Asia.

“This song (Quiet) is personal to me.

“It’s about staying true to yourself no matter what others say, and I think that’s something every young person should hear,” she said in a statement today.

Taylor earned her spot on the international stage after emerging champion at ASAF’s Malaysian preliminary round earlier this year.

Her growing list of international achievements includes a gold medal at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and a special mention at the Sanremo Junior World Finals in Italy, where she ranked among the Top 5 globally in her age group.

Next, Taylor will take on her first professional musical theatre role as Rayna in Dreamweaver: The Musical, to be staged at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC) on Aug 29 and 30. She will be the youngest performer in the production, appearing in three shows over two days. — DayakDaily
