Sarawak’s Sara Sofea earns first medal for fencing with silver medal in women’s fencing at Sukma 2024

KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawakian fencer Sara Sofea Idongesit Warrie Okon secured a silver medal in the Women’s Epee Individual category at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024, marking the first fencing medal for the State in this year’s event.

Sara Sofea faced a tough final match against Melaka’s Farhatul Jannah Abdul Rahman, who ultimately won gold with a 15-8 victory.

Johor’s Nur Fadhila Azle took home the bronze medal.

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, presented the medals to the winners during the ceremony held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club in Miri yesterday.

The event saw a total of 22 fencers competing for the top spot, with enthusiastic support from Sarawak’s fans throughout the competition.

Also in attendance was the President of the Malaysia Fencing Federation, Rusni Abu Hassan. — DayakDaily
